8mm Gate for Universal Mark I, includes LightPin which reads the sprocket hole as the film passes. With this method the frames are detected even if the film is very light. LightPin set up is very quick: focus the light on the film and slide to center of the sprocket hole, see pictures D & E. If you change out to another gate and then reinstall this one, LightPin will not have to be adjusted again. However, regular 8 and super 8 sprocket holes are slightly different and LightPin must be centered when changing formats - takes about a minute.
Easily remove and change gates in minutes with the two large Turn Bolts on top. Film can be threaded on the gate in different ways depending on tension needed

One of the real errors of movie processing labs was not adding a leader at the end of the film. As the film passes in a projector or scanner there is no tension on the last 5-10 seconds and that section becomes out of focus or jumps frames or both. Another critical issue with no leader at the end of a reel is the on going loss of film. When film is rewound the last few frames are bent to provide traction. These frames often break or can no longer be viewed, and as this continues a few frames are lost each time. It's not unusual for the last one or two seconds of a movie to contain something very important - and now its gone forever. So whether its a 50' or 400' reel, take the time to add a leader at the end. Best way, find an old hand crank movie viewer.
