Released in Britain in 1965 as a follow-up to the now-legendary Garrard 301, the Garrard 401 is an idler drive turntable that remains highly sought-after by audiophiles and collectors alike. The turntable features a large motor which drives an idler, in turn driving the platter by its rim. This mechanism is known for its reliability and is still praised by turntable fans around the world. The base is die-cast aluminum, offering a highly robust feel. By virtue of its high quality of construction and design, the 401 provides excellent performance, with low wow and flutter and low rumble. Many people say that a Garrard 401 is really made superb by a great plinth. This particular unit is set in a beautiful Sunwood plinth. Overall, the whole thing is stunning. This is a legendary vintage turntable, and one in excellent condition is a rare find! Don’t miss it!
Despite its age, this turntable is in wonderful operational and cosmetic condition. It's in excellent condition, with some feeling of use overall (see photos), including some chips and wood fading. The unit has been thoroughly checked and tested by our professional technician, who has confirmed the integrity and excellent operation of the unit, including the motor and speed control. Considering the robust construction of units like these, it’s likely this turntable can be enjoyed for many years to come. It doesn't have dust cover, hinges, cartridge and headshell. This one includes a SME 3009 tonearm.
